How a gallery works
A gallery conveniently presents many different elements in one location.
A scrolling gallery is more likely to attract attention and can display more information in a smaller space.
Therefore, sellers are more frequently turning to scrolling galleries for cross-promoting their other items.
A gallery can point the buyer to items that complement the one they are considering for purchase,
or can help illustrate the wide spectrum of items the seller offers.
Using an X*sell gallery
The X*sell gallery is a manually-inserted gallery. This tool will locate your auctions,
automatically create a gallery of up to 20 items, and will allow you to configure the
gallery to suit your needs and match your page. After the gallery looks the way you want,
copy the code from the bottom of the page, and paste it into your auction or web page.
As your auction information changes and listings expire, you will need to manually update
with a new gallery.
Make a Easy eBid Gallery
Select one search option: The Easy filler will search through eBid listings and will load up to 100 listings based on choosing one of these three formats:
Seller: Select by seller name to search for up to 75 most recent active listings.
Custom Search: Use one of eBid's standard searches to find the content you would like to include in a gallery.
Copy the URL from the address line of your browser after those search results appear.
Bring that URL back to this tool and paste it into the Custom eBid Search slot. Only eBid searches will work here.
Country: Select the country where your eBid auctions are running.
This is important for both locating your items and for creating gallery
links that will take the buyer to the auction through the selected country.
Start Search: After a country and search method are selected,
and the selected fields are populated, click the "Start Search" button.
The data will be collected and the page will be reloaded using the new data.
If you have a lot of listings, the page may take some time to reload.
After page reloading -
Upon reloading, the first 20 listings will be used to automatically create a gallery.
You may skip down to the bottom to pick up your gallery, or sequence through
the numbered steps to modify your gallery selections and change your gallery's appearance.
In cases where there are a large number of listings, your gallery images may not be the correct shape.
This is due to the tool working faster than the images can load.
If you see this problem, simply click the "Make Gallery" button down in step #3 after all of the thumnbails have appeared on the screen.
Data warning: The Easy eBid Gallery is the simplest way to create a gallery or locate your most recent listings.
However, it will reload the page and erase any data that was added in the fields down in section #1.
Make your Own
Modify a premade Easy Gallery: First make a Easy eBid Gallery and then simply move down to step #1
to select different listings from the search results or to change captions.
Create an eBid Gallery by Hand: Move down to step one and manually enter your eBid item links, thumbnail images, and your custom captions.
Use your own Images and Links: Move down to step one and enter your image and link information in those fields and continue down the page to preview images and set up the gallery appearance.
Saving your Settings
This tool has a button near the bottom to bookmark your page settings and store them in your browser favorites.
When you click the button, a boomark/favorites popup will appear.
The bookmark will remember your gallery colors and the pages you used to create a Easy eBid Gallery.
When you use that saved bookmark to come back to this tool,
you will be able to easily create and pick up a new gallery with little or no effort.
(The bookmark won't remember any custom fields that were added in section #1.)
You can make as many bookmarks as you want for different styles of galleries.
If your browser or security settings don't support the bookmark button,
you can make a bookmark the old-fashioned way.
But first we'll need to make sure that your color settings appear in the address line of your browser.
To do that, copy your gallery code and save it on your computer. Then click the Search button in the
Easy eBid Gallery section. When the page reappears, the URL in the browser address line
will have all of your settings, and is ready to bookmark from the browser menu.
The generated gallery code is free to use, but please maintain the credit lines.
Create auction links or custom links to your store or website.
Clear the columns and Add an auction number and caption for each gallery item.
Captions are not required.
Sets without images/auctions will be ignored.
Clear: The template is prefilled with samples.
Clear the left column to insert your own, or else overwrite the data that is there.
A "clear" button is at the bottom of each column.
Gallery Types: There are two styles of galleries - Auctions and Custom.
Auctions: The Easy eBid Search is the Easyest way to find listings,
and you can check off the ones to include in the gallery.
Choose the eBid site (country) where these items are displaying.
The links will then take the buyer to the auction through the selected country.
Or you can manually enter your eBid item link, thumbnail link, and a caption
in the same way you would make a custom gallery.
Custom: You may use your own photos from your website or store in a custom gallery.
Be sure the images are thumbnail sized for fast page loading.
The custom links can go to a store search, category, or any page on your website.
Provide the URL for the online photo, the destination link, and a short caption for the item.
Captions: You may omit captions, and the gallery will display the default
caption shown down in section 3. You may change or delete that default caption.
Minimum Gallery: Try to display at least four items in the gallery,
as the gallery will shrink if there are not enough items.
If you don't have enough photos, and want a wider gallery,
you may repeat your list of items to fill up more slots.
Maximum Gallery: This tool has slots for only 20 items, but it is by no means limited to just 20 items.
More items may be manually added to the code afterwards, or you can create two galleries and copy
the item list from the top of one gallery to the other, changing the numbering sequence to follow the format.
Skip Fields: This tool will only use the filled-in slots to create the gallery,
so you can skip over any sets that you don't want to use. If a thumbnail URL
is missing from the top field in a set, the set will be skipped.
Scratchpad: The scratchpad is a place to cut and paste if you want to
collect all of your links in one place before pasting them into the slots.
Done: After filling in the fields, move on to Section 2.
You will not be taken away from this page, so you may correct the data at any time
Preload: This tool will make a gallery using photos of any size or aspect ratio. However, it must first read the images to fetch those dimensions, so it is VERY important to click the button to load the preview images here.
Count images: Count the images to make sure they have all appeared, and reload them again if they haven't.
Fix: If the wrong images appear, or if an image fails to appear, make the corrections in the data fields above and then click the "Load Images" button again. (If different images fail to appear at each reload, you may need to clear your browser cache.)
Done: After the images all appear, move on to section 3.
Important - Load and preview your images here to make sure they were added correctly above.
This step will also read the dimensions from your images,
which is necessary for configuring a gallery with arbitrary image shapes.
Do not continue until all images appear. Repeat "Load Images" if necessary or fix the links above and click "Load Images" again.
When all images appear, you may continue with step 3.
These settings are optional: This section can be skipped entirely and the default values will be used to create your gallery.
Colors: You may modify the gallery's border, background, and caption colors.
Enter color code: Select which one to change and then enter a color code - you may use color codes or color names. If you enter your own HTML color codes, be sure the code begins with the # symbol.
Use color palette: You can also select a color off the color palette. First, click the field you want to change and then run your mouse over the color palette. Click the desired color and its value will be placed in the color field.
Tweak colors: The "drab" button can be used to tone down colors toward gray, and the "none" button can be used to set the gallery background to transparent. Erasing the background color will also set the background to transparent.
Borders: Set borders around the gallery and images.
Border size: This option will set the outer border thickness for the entire gallery. The border on the blowup thumbnail will automatically be set to half that thickness.
Inner borders: This option will add a very thin outline to each of the thumbnails in the panel, and is separate from the border on the blowup image. This thickness is not definable.
Fonts: The font size and style can be selected and bold font can be checkmarked if desired.
Resize: The gallery width and the thumbnail sizes can be specified.
Height: The thumbnails can be resized. The Height field allows you to change the height of the blowup thumbnail. The width will resize automatically.
Blowup ratio: The Blowup ratio is the size ratio of the thumbnails on the panel to the blowup image. At 100% they will be the same size and there will be no blowup at all. At 50%, there will be an enormous difference between the half-sized thumbnails and the blowup.
Gallery width: The gallery width can be set to any width, but will shrink down if there are not enough thumbnails to fill that width. The gallery width will always be one image less than the total number of images. If you add more images or change the thumbnail size settings, the gallery will adjust down if necessary, but won't adjust up. So this setting will need to be adjusted every time. The gallery height will automatically adjust to the content.
Caption: The Default Caption is what will display while the gallery is sitting there. When the user mouses over a thumbnail, the caption from section 1 will be displayed. If no captions were added in section 1, then the default caption will always display.
If the default caption is deleted and there are no captions in section 1, then no captions will appear and the gallery height will reduce accordingly.
Speed: There are 5 scrolling-speed settings. If there are only a few images and they all appear in the screen, then a slow crawl is fine. If there are 20 or more images, a faster setting may be desired to get through the entire list in a timely fashion. The gallery scrolls faster in FireFox than in Internet Explorer.
Done: The "Apply" buttons and the "Make Gallery" button all do the same thing. They refresh the gallery on the screen and write the code to the code window.

Multiple Galleries: If you plan to use more than one gallery in a page, then it needs to be encoded so that each gallery uses its own set of variables.
Checkmark the multiple gallery option if you plan to have more than one on a page or if you have a page with a lot of scripts that might share the same variable names.
It is ok if the first gallery on a page is not coded for multiples, but each additional gallery on the same page needs its own unique coding.
Code Format: The code can be created in two different forms - readable and compacted
Readable: The readable version will make it easier to edit and add captions offline, since the fields are easy to see.
Compacted: The compressed version creates smaller code, but the fields are no longer available for further editing offline.
Copy code: The gallery code may be copied directly from the code window. Instructions are below the code window.
Paste code: Paste the code into your auction or webpage, or save the code to a Notepad file for later use.
Galleries are most user-friendly when placed at the bottom of the page. In that location, the more important parts of the page can load before the gallery loads.
Editing Offline: When you save your "readable" gallery to a notepad file, you can easily update the content on your own computer.
Add, delete, replace: Replace obsolete items with your new items at the top of the source code.
You may add as many items as you wish by continuing the numbering sequence and following the same format.
If you delete items, it is not necessary to renumber over the gaps. The code will ignore numbering gaps.
Determining Image ratios: All the image ratios have been calculated by this tool. If all of your images are the same ratio,
the program would have created a single ratio to use throughout, so that you would not need to plug in repetitive numbers.
When manually editing, if your images are variable sizes, you will need to determine the image ratio for each one.
That ratio is the width divided by the height. If your images are wide, the number will be greater than "1.0". If your images are tall, that number will be less than "1.0".
If you are uncomfortable calculating ratios, you may return to the online tool with your images and create a fake gallery (without worrying about the appearance formatting).
Then paste the new values, from the top of the new code, into your desktop code.
Modifying appearance: While several of the appearance parameters are available for editing, some users may find it easier to
create a new appearance online. In most cases, the item list from a previous gallery can be pasted into the top of the new code.
Warning: Watch out for quotes and apostrophes within your item descriptions, as these may kill javascript code.
This online tool automatically replaces quotes ( " ) and apostrophes ( ' ) with HTML entities, and you will need to do the same when you edit offline.

The 5-character HTML entity for an apostrophe (single quote mark) is ( ' ).
Either right-click and choose "select all" or drag your mouse across the code
while holding down the mouse button, highlighting the code within the window above.
Right-click and select "copy," or use the keys "Ctrl-C" or "Ctrl-Insert,"
to copy the code. The "copy" button only works with Internet Explorer.
Paste the code into your destination page. On the destination page,
you may have an edit-menu option to "paste," or you might right-click and select "paste."
The destination page may also support the keys "Ctrl-V" or "Shift-Insert" for pasting.
